1. What resources and capabilities do you think the NBA has?
Does it more difficult to get unique resources and distinctive capabilities?
Resources: NBA gets huge income from the sale of tickets, the TV shows and ads, its game audio on leagues website, its products, stores and restaurants.
Capabilities: NBA is good at marketing its game globally. It develops worldwide network; it makes the brand (NBA) popular abroad and recruited talented players from foreign countries. NBA has good networking, negotiation and marketing skills. What’s more, NBA has the vision to grow global---it attracts interest in its products and develops strategy to capture international markets.
To develop unique resources and distinctive capabilities is a tradeoff between localized and globally marketing. NBA should go abroad to be a foreign national leagues. The experiences in foreign countries can offer unique opportunities to develop leagues internationally. Although problems such as lack of fans, lack of sponsor support, etc. could arise with existing leagues, local leagues may be more vulnerable than an international one, and for example, a local league could be easily takeover.
2. Each Internal analysis analyzing the strengths and weaknesses of the NBA.
Which one is the most appropriate for an organization like the NBA?
Value chain analysis can spot services that are not found in the market but that customers will value. Internal audit can identify inefficiencies and poor behavior in product delivery. For instance, does the NBA do well in contracting for TV or newspaper royalties abroad? --- That can be examined by an audit.
