Pg.1-26. The Keller homestead is having lots of trouble with Helen and don't know what to do with her. Kate and Keller are getting into a heated debate on deciding what do to. Aunt Ev is noising her way into it and trying to put her opinion in and persuading Captain Keller. The Keller homestead very badly wants to seed help for Helen and figure out a way to communicate with her. Kate comes up with an idea on what to do and Keller doesn't think anything will work.
Pg.27-42. The Keller family find out about someone who can help them from a blind deaf school in Boston. Captain Keller at first refuses to write back and ask for help until Kate finally works the subject till Captain gives in. They write to the institute and find that someone will be arriving shortly to help. Meanwhile in Boston, the doctor at the institute selects a tough-minded girl and begins to tell her about the family and whom she is dealing with. The girl selected (Annie Sullivan) is ready and willing to face anything. Annie is well known and everybody doesn't want her to leave.
Pg.43-50. The whole Keller homestead is very anxious to meet the new teacher of Helen. They have gone to the train station and met every train for a number of days. Finally when the train arrives and Annie steps off, James (Helen's step brother) greets Annie warmly and with good manners. When Kate arrives home with Annie, the first thing she asks for is Helen. Annie instantly wants to become attached to Helen and make a connection. Annie gives Helen a doll that Helen likes very much. Annie takes Helen up to her room and starts to teach her right from the beginning. Helen begins to get disgusted with Annie and takes the doll and hits Annie in the face with it. Helen runs out grabs the key and locks Annie in her room. While all of this is going on, James sees Helen run out of the room but doesn't bother to tell anybody about because he has been told numerous times to be quiet. When diner time rolls around, Captain Keller asks where Annie is. James then tells the Captain and it causes lots of commotion.
ACT 2
Pg.51-55. Captain Keller is starting to get very unpleased with Annie and her actions towards Helen. Annie has to teach discipline to Helen before she can teach her anything else. One night at diner, Helen went around to each person's plate and took whatever she wanted. Once she got to Annie's plate, Annie quickly moved the plate and slapped Helen's hands away. Helen gets very upset and Annie asks for everyone to leave with out questions asked.
Pg.56-62. Annie wrestles around with Helen for quite a while until she comes out of the house and announces that Helen has folded her napkin. No one seems to take that into consideration except for Kate. Captain Keller is very upset and is getting closer and closer to asking Annie to leave. When Kate
