Making salts lab type up

Materials:

scale, safety goggles, evaporating dish, watch glass, 3g of (NaHCO3), 6m of HCl, burner, fuel, and a striker.

Procedure:

1.) Prepare a data table. Wear safety goggles at all times.

2.) Clean and dry an evaporating dish; to dry dish heat for 2-3 minutes on the burner; let cool; mass; repeat until mass stays within 0.01g.

3.) Add 3g of sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) to evaporating dish, weigh watch glass too.

4.) Cover evaporating dish with watch glass. Add drops of 6m HCl to the (NaHCO3) until bubbling stops. Record the number of drops.

5.) After the reaction stops hit the watch glass and rinse with a small glass of water.

6.) Heat the liquid in the evaporating dish keeping the watch glass as a cover. Gently heat until all the liquid has been evaporated.

7.) Remove dish and cool it. After it is cooled weigh it and record mass.

8.) Re-heat dish again for 3-5 minutes. Cool. Weigh. If weight stays within 0.02g stop heating and clean up.

Data:

Weight of evaporating dish = 32.7g

Weight of dish w/NaHCO3 = 35.7g

Weight of dish w/NaHCO3 and watch glass = 75.0

# of drops of 6ml of HCl = 93

Weight after heating = 75.83
