The trend of being on phone all the time may seems so fashionable, but in reality it is like a bug sucking our brain. In S. Craig Watkins, “Fast Entertainment and multitasking in an Always-on World,” S. Craig Watkins expresses his feelings on how technology is affecting modern society. I agree with his statement that there are several kinds of technology around us, but they can be detrimental to our welfare.
Fast entertainment is considered normal in our society, although it has so many disadvantages. Watkins describes that we are now living in “Snack Culture,” hungrily feasting on information and amusement like candy and chips (S. Craig Watkins 393). It is true that we all, as a society are extremely famished for fast entertainment. I think that humans can’t do multitasking, and if they do it, it is not prosperous for them. As explained in the text, multitasking is not always good for consumers (S. Craig Watkins 394).
Young people in our society are more eager to do multitasking than any other age group. Young people are “media rich” and they are persistently looking for entertainment to consume it like a candy (Watkins 396). I agree that being on phone is always distracting. I used to go on social media all the time, and procrastinate on my homework, and on lots of other activities. As a result, I got two C’s in my classes last semester. I learned from my mistakes, and this semester I made a commitment , and now I barely go on social media. I deleted my Facebook, Instagram, and my Twitter accounts, and I think it is helping. I suggest all the social media deprived people to do the same.
The upturn in technology is due to the shifting of technology in youth rooms (397 Watkins). Most of the kids and adults including me have internet facility in their rooms, which prohibit us doing certain vital tasks, and create the environment of distraction all the time.
