Music is taking over the youth as we know it. Students listen to music as they study, do homework, and walk from class to class. We decided to find out what type of music our fellow peers listen to.

Our belief is that teenagers prefer what is popular in society and what they are introduced to through their religion or race. If one practices Christianity at an early age, they will be exposed to gospel music. If one grew up in a particular part of town that played hip-hop music everyday, one would feel the urge to play that type of music.

We gave a short questionnaire to 80 RMHS students asking them which genre of music they prefer to listen to; Rock, Country, Rap, Pop, or other. We thought that the majority of the students would vote for Rap because everywhere you go, there is Rap music playing and modern Hip-hop culture is popular throughout the world.

Just as we predicted, the majority of the students voted Rap as their favorite genre of music. The votes went as follows: 38 students for Rap, 15 for Pop, 4 for Country, 7 for Rock, 16 for other. Many people for other mentioned “Trap” (electronic dance music ), gospel, and several different types of Mexican culture music.

The popular choice among young adults and many others continues to be Rap music. Hip-hop culture and Rap music has not only grown in popularity throughout the years, but it has created a unique culture that has greatly influenced our generation, creating a Hip-hop legacy of fashion, language, and overall lifestyle.
