NGV a better option, safe in every situation
The PTT Co., Ltd. (Public) together with the Mechanical TYPEering Department, TYPEering Faculty of Kasetsart University and Calvary Department 53 in Saraburi tested the safety of the NGV gas tank in the shooting field of Calvary Department 53, Saraburi, to built confidence to user that NGV is safe in all situation.
Petrol is the most important source of basic fuel and it is the source for various energies especially in the Agriculture and Transport & Communications Industries. In the past there has been an attempt in seeking the fuel to use on automobile in replacement of petrol. Which at moment the prices of petrol, cooking gas, LPG, petrol mix with alcohol or gasohol are extremely high. Today we have a better option and that is the natural fuel and that is natural gas, which we recognized under the name of NGV. If compare NGV to other quality fuels that are currently in use. One will find that the NGV really stand out from them all in the sense that it preserve environment and is 50% cheaper
With it’s quality as gas and pressure as high as 200 Bar or approximately 3000 Pond per square meter, to be compress into the different sizes tank according to the suitability on usage. The safety of the tank containing NGV gas is very important, each of the tanks has to be according to the ISO 11439 standard. The PTT Co., Ltd. (Public) in coordination with the Mechanical TYPEering Department, TYPEering Faculty of Kasetsart University and Calvary Department in Saraburi had set up a safety test on NGV tank at the Shooting Range of the Calvary Department to ensure users that NGV is safe for every situation.
The test was carried out in four different ways:
1st Method Tested by shooting at the gas tank. The tank was shot with a bullet, of 7.62 in diameter, at a distant of 25 meters until the tank leaks. This resulted in the tank releasing of gas from the hole caused by gunshot but the tank did not explode and no flame. Meaning that if this gas is use for a car should an accident occurred or if the tank is damaged with hole it will not cause an explosion and will not set fire.
2nd Method Tested by water pressure. This experiment is to see how much pressure the tank before breaking up. If use air or gas it explosion will be tremendous, and frightening. Therefore, water is use for this test. A pump was used to force water into the tank, by using 2-3 times pressure of the actual usage. The team had tested by forcing water pressure into an empty NGV tank until the tank broke up with long split this was caused by the 600 bar pressure which is 2.2 times more than the normal pressure.
3rd Method Tested by setting fire. The tank containing gas was set on fire to see if it will explode. After heating the tank for a while the tank device slowly released the gas but no damage was done
