Serving our in our countries military or some form of community service is one of the highest honors a person can have. If everyone were required to serve at least one year, most people would consider this country not free. This is one of the reasons that the draft was removed during the 1970's, allowing us to have the choice to serve our country. Being required to serve in a community role is the same principal as the military draft. Americans should have the freedom to choose their employment or to serve in the military or some form of community service.
When an individual is forced to join some form of governmental department, the moral of that individual will not be the same as someone how joins because they have strong feelings for serving the country. Taking a closer look at the war in Iraq that our troops are presently fighting, one will see the dedication the soldiers have. The soldiers want to fight and want to liberate the people of Iraq. They give a hundred percent everyday, working all hours of the night doing their assigned duties without question. This exemplifies the willingness of a person how joins the forces because they desire to be apart of something great.
Forcing people to do a year of community service will hamper many spirits of younger people. When someone is in their youth, they need to be able to experiment with different career paths to find one that will satisfy their desires. The greatest country in the entire world does not need individuals serving their country with an attitude of having to be there. Motivation is the key to having a successful organization that will be able to accomplish tasks. This will only be achieved is individuals working for the organization are there because of desires to be apart of something big.
