Decision-making is important for any organization to succeed. By using a decision-making model, management can make clear decisions. Incorporating their experiences with their decision thought process will ensure a winning combination. There are many thoughts on decision-making and how it should be approached. Although I have never used the decision-making models for business uses, I have used them in my personal life. As an undergraduate, I have used a decision tree, scenarios, and the six thinking hats.
A decision tree refers to a decision and the possible outcomes of that decision. A decision tree is a decision support tool, used to identify the strategy most likely to reach a goal. One of the advantages of the decision tree is that it was easy for me to understand. After thinking of all possible outcomes for my decision, it is right there in front of me whether or not it will benefit me to stick with the decision. A decision tree can also be used with other decision models.
The scenario analysis is the method that studies possible events by looking at possible outcomes. This allows for better decision-making by allowing a more complete list of outcomes and their implications. This is a decision-making method I find myself using daily in my personal life. If I play out a scenario in my head and I weigh all possibilities, I have a better chance of making a good decision. This is also something I try to teach my children.
The thinking hats, also known as the Debono hats, represent the six thinking strategies. The thinking hats were developed to clarify the many different methods of thinking used by people. This method is used to help people possibly understand how to approach someone else and understand their way of thinking.
