Oil Drilling in National Parks Does Not Cut It.

There should be no drilling in National Parks. I don't see why the Bush Administration would think of drilling for oil there. Why would we want to pollute the environment, kill off or ruin habitats for animals, and most important, why would we want to ruin something that will last forever to get something that's only temporary?

Everyday trucks are moving in and out of Canyon Lands National Park. These trucks make it difficult for our air to stay clean and healthy for our environment. Park officials have to cut down trees and make roads in order to get oil trucks through. By cutting down the trees, it pollutes the air, making it hard for animals to live. And this is also making animals having to move. This brings me to my next point.

The Wildlife Rehabilitation Committee says that most species aren't able to rebuild their habitat. So, by cutting down these trees they aren't able to rebuild and eventually die. The oil spills that come with drilling the oil are very harmful. And can kill many populations of all kinds of animals.

But still everyday 50,000 pound trucks are moving through Canyon Lands National Park, located in South East Utah, to get the oil we need. Why would we want to ruin something that could last forever, for oil that will only last a short period of time? The Park scientist say marks won't be visible to the tourist's eye, but will take decades to recover from the shock-waves of industrial hammering.

It doesn't make any sense why we would drill for oil here in Utah's National Parks. It wouldn't help us any. We would just ship it away to other places in the world. So it wouldn't even lower our outrageous gas prices. But it will give money to the government. So what's the point?
