Poles are horrible drivers
It costs about 2000 zl, takes about three months of your time, you pass an
exam and there it is... your driving license. Nowadays it is more obtainable then it used to be. More and more people have their own cars and maybe that is why the society has become more careless in driving. I believe that despite the stereotype Poles are not such bad driver as it is thought.
As far as I'm concerned, we, meaning Poles, are quite good drivers, taking into consideration the conditions of our roads. According to many research, Polish roads are in one of the worst conditions in Europe, not to mention our highways and rather the lack of them... So no wonder Polish drivers are generally perceived as bad, even horrible, but the blame is not on their being badly trained or examined, but on the realities they have to face and live in while driving on our 'marvellous' roads.
Another issue which strongly states my belief that Poles are good drivers is that Polish people in the West of Europe are generally believed to be hard working, reliable, efficient and accurate, that is why for example in England, Polish bus or truck drivers are seen as the best ones and as workers are well-paid and respected. This year Marek Szerenos, a Polish truck driver got the first place in Young European Truck Driver 2007 contest, he has beaten 26 professional driver from the whole Europe. Marek says: 'I know how safety on the road is important in my work. It's a huge honour for me to typify for other young truck drivers.' That reward proves that Polish drivers are good, skilled and able to drive on a high European level.
On the other hand, not that long ago (March 2007) another Polish truck driver, because of his carelessness killed Neville and Cheryl De\\\'ath, a British marriage, on road A303 in Southern Wiltshire, but he confessed himself and got sentenced for four years imprisonment. This Polish driver stated that he was driving ten hours without stopping, he was exhausted and that was the reason why he suddenly swerved into the wrong side of the road and hit the car which the De'aths were driving. The relatives of the killed people said:
