When conducting a project short or long term, there are five phases that need to be performed before the project can be terminated. The first thing a person should know is what describes a project. What determines a project is that it has a beginning and an end as long as the project has an ending and does not carry on as a day to day function it is considered a product. A good example of a project is planning for a birthday party, wedding or building a new building. All of these events have a short life that will not continue on after the task has been completed.

When performing a project there are five phases that need to be followed before a project can be completed, these five phases are: project initiation, project planning, project execution, project closure and project control. Each stage is vital to the successful of the project.
The first part of the project is called the project initiation this part is when the project manager realizes there is a project that needs to be completed and the team building process begins. This involves putting together a team of people that is skillful enough to assist and the project. Also in the initiation stage, the manager would prepare a preliminary scope and create a completion date.
The next stage is the project planning phase. In this stage, a person is tasked with the responsibility of detailing all the events that need to be completed in the project. for example if a person was building a house they would state that the foundation need to be completed first then the frame work of the house and continue to state each phase of the process until the house is completed. This process also includes realistic dates that each phase should be completed before the next phase of the project can start. Normally this is shown by creating a Gantt chart.
The next phase is the project execution stage. This stage requires the leader of the project to gather all resources need to perform each task to help complete the project. For example when building a house, the project leader would need to seek a plumber, electrician, roofer, and so forth to complete the project. This process could be very long and may need to be revised several times to ensure that the people involved in the project understand their obligations and the task they are to perform.
The project control stage is when the project manger communicates with the individual that wanted the project done in the first place. This stage is too basically get that person approval to proceed with the project plan if the person does not agree with the plan then the project manager must consult with the entire team and make adjustments to the plan to fit the customer needs.
The final phase of the plan is the project closure this occurs when the client is pleased with the out of the project. After approval from the client, the team has to prepare a post-closure report and present it to upper management. Once upper management approves the report, the team begins to write a project closure review to rate the project's overall success. This is done so the project manger know want was done right and wrong so the next time they will be able to correct want went wrong.
