- Raul Ruiz was Born August 25, 1972, in Zacatecas, Mexico, he grew up in the community of Coachella, California, where both of his parents were farmworkers. Dr. Ruiz achieved his lifelong dream of becoming a physician through public education. Raul graduated from Coachella Valley High School. After graduation, he went to Harvard University, where he earned his Medical Degree, as well as a Masters of Public Policy and Health becoming the first Latino to earn three graduate degrees from Harvard University. He completed his Residency in Emergency Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh and a Fellowship in International Emergency Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Dr. Ruiz continued his work as an Emergency Room Doctor until he was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2012. He now represents California’s 36th. Raul has decided to resides in Palm Desert, CA. Raul is a typical member of congress because he wanted to purse a position in congress so he choose a major that was relatable and educational to him when and if he were to be elected in the house, but Raul is also atypical member by the means that he pursed a path similar to a doctor before he was elected, he had his life planned out in a way that if he never to become a member of congress he would still be happy in the Career he choose.
- Raul Ruiz is an American medical doctor and politician. Raul is Democrat, he has been a member of the United States House of Representatives since winning election in 2012. In what was considered a major upset, Ruiz defeated redistricted, incumbent Republican representative Mary Bono Mack in the November 2012 general election in California's 36th congressional district. Ruiz was reelected to Congress in the 2014 election, after what was considered one of the most competitive congressional races in the country. Raul is not a career politician, he is a medical major, a physician.
- Raul Ruiz represents the Representative District, the 36th District since 2013. California's 36th congressional district is a congressional district in the U.S. state of California based in eastern Riverside County. The district covers most of the desert communities of Palm Springs, Palm Desert, Indio, Coachella, Rancho Mirage, Desert Hot Springs, Indian Wells, and Cathedral City in the Inland Empire. The 36th District would have problems with bipartisanship. People in the 36th District are sick of the partisan bickering and political gamesmanship that has led to extreme problems in Washington, so a group of problem-solving Democrats and Republicans they are dedicated to ending the partisan bickering in Congress and working together to find solutions that could solve America’s biggest problems. This is only a problem in the 36th district because they are the district that faces the most problems when it comes bipartisanship, most other districts other have one party that dominates the districts so they don’t have problems like bipartisanship.
- Raul Ruiz committee and subcommittee assignments are “The United States House of Representatives Committee on Veterans' Affairs” which is a standing committee of the U.S. House of Representatives Veterans in the 36th District and all across the United States that have served our country honorably and deserve our unwavering support; The committee was created in 1946. Also, “The United States House of Representatives Committee on Natural Resources” that is a standing committee of the U.S. House of Representatives. This committee assignment was assigned to the 36th District because it is the home to a rich diversity of natural resources and iconic public lands. The district is also leading the way in clean, renewable energy industries such as wind, solar, and geothermal. The Investment in renewable energy is an important part of fulfilling their obligation as overseers of the environment, and it will also help create clean energy jobs in our communities and strengthen the local economy. The committee was created on December 17, 1805. The inaugural committee was chaired by Andrew Gregg.
- Raul Ruiz raised $458,624 in the first quarter of 2016 election. That brings his campaign war chest up to $1.85 million. Ruiz’s Republican challenger, Jeff Stone raised $118,655 in the first three months of the year and had $102,491 in campaign cash as of the first of the month. Raul’s most important sources of the campaign funds were for A) Jobs and the Economy, to reduce the deficit in a way that protects working families, retirees, and people who have lost their homes, jobs, and security during the last few years. B) Breaking Gridlock as an Emergency Room physician, I’m trained to focus on solving problems and getting things done. When a patient is in the emergency room, it doesn’t matter whether they’re a Democrat or Republican, or who gets credit for solving the problem; all that matters is fixing the problem. That’s the approach I’ll bring to Congress. And C) Education, to Prepare all our children for success by making college affordable, investing in preschool and vocational training, and fully funding after school programs." He had a few other campaigns that were important to him as well, such as the “Medicare and Social Security” campaign and the “Standing Up for What's Right” campaign. Raul did self-fund a small percentage to some of his campaigns, but it unfortunately it was not to a significant degree.
- I choose to research the group based on voting for Raul Ruiz, in this group the issues that are highlighted are topics such as: abortion, drugs, crime, wildlife, civil liberties, economy, energy, and foreign aid. I would categorize all of these topics under the umbrella of topics and social issues that affect the way society is progressing. The group I chose is very respectful and honorable of Raul Ruiz, they believe that his opinion always has justification and logic behind them, he is open-minded, thoughtful, and is cable of solving many of today’s problems in society. With all being said I believe that the group would consider him as a very strong intellectual ally.
- As recent at October 17th, 2016 Raul Ruiz wrote a letter to Ms. Jocelyn Samuels, the Director of Office for Civil Rights, and Department of Health and Human Services, urging the Health and Human Service (HHS) to stop discrimination in organ transplants. Raul thinks this is important due to the fact that racial profiling and discrimination should not come into such affect when dealing with organ transplants, especially when it could literally save a person’s life. Raul and many other people believe and know that we are all human, and we should be all treated equally, this is how God created us; no man is superior to another, and no sin is no greater than another. Raul believes that unless there is something medically wrong with a donor that could affect an organ recipient’s life, rejection of organ transplants due to racial profiling and discrimination is outrageous, unacceptable, and will not be tolerated.
- Raul belongs to the Democratic Party in Congress, I would say that Raul is an atypical member of congress not only because of his voting record or his interest group evaluation, he is an atypical member because he will always find a way to view something that other will not see, he doesn’t let money, power, or people get to him or his head. He has common sense, logic and reasoning in everything that he does, he is a very smart and brilliant man. Something that really makes him a different type of politician is that even though he is democratic he will try to see what the republicans see, try to envision their vision, and understand their point of view. This is also one of his greatest problem solving skills, most people can’t do that they just want to stick to their point and always be right, without seeing the big picture. Raul Is not arrogant, cocky, nor selfish, for everything that he does, he does it for the improvement of society, and not just himself or his party of Congress,
- I personally do admire Raul Ruiz one, out of respect, and two, mainly because he attained the occupation I dream to pursue. I respect Raul because his background is similar to mine, his parents didn’t have much to offer him but one thing that they do is provide for him, and that is what my parents do as well. And with the little that they were able to provide for him he was able to go to school, graduate top of his high school class, not only go to college, but go to the number one university in America, and not only earn one, nor two, but three degrees. Even after all of this he still had enough perseverance to follow through all of medical school to become a Physician. Only if I had known about him earlier, he would have been my role model, but now since I know of him I can continue my journey along his footsteps in a way, it may not be directly but it could be a strong as motivationally. Another reason why I respect Raul is because he had a desire to be a politician, but instead of ditching his medical career his pursued it as if it was his only desire, and made it his first and primary way of living in society. After he completed his medical career he then went into politics with one of his three degrees, with a humble mind and a humble heart. Raul is very open-minded and caring not only for himself, but for society as well, this is why I admire, respect, and look up to Raul Ruiz.
