Reading and Comprehension
Main Points from “8 Secrets to a Knockout Business Presentation.”
• Find a relevant fact beyond your topic
• Give them the unexpected
• Practice your delivery over and over
• Always explain words and acronyms
• Leave the jokes at home
• Do not rely on your slide projector to run the show
I did not have a specific approach to the reading. I just sat down and started. As usual when I sat down to start doing serious reading in the evenings I go in my bedroom. I always go there, because my husband keeps the children away so I can get peace and study in a quiet environment. Going into my bedroom is the first way I minimize distractions. When I am in the family room the children want my attention focused on them and they do whatever they can to see that happens. Therefore, by going into a different room I eliminate that right away. The second way I minimize distractions is to make sure I do not turn the TV on. Sometimes there might be a show on that I like to watch and having the time with myself without the kids, gives me the opportunity. It poses a big distraction when I am reading, so I make sure to fight the urge to turn the TV on.
Focusing on the article, I did not find it emotionally involving. I have never giving a business presentation, so I cannot relate to the topic. In another class, I will be giving my first proposal, so I think the information might come in handy.
