Introduction / Background
There is a requirement to prepare a HR related research proposal. The topic which has been selected for research is “Role of Absenteeism in organizational Performance: A Case Study of Maldives”. There is not any reason to deny this fact that absenteeism has a significant role in organizational performance. Organizations all over the world have tried to find the most effective techniques to improve the resource management by the employees particularly focusing on controlling absenteeism and minimizing employee turnover. (Onikoyi, Awolusi, & Boyede, 2015)
In order to increase organizational performance, different tools and techniques like; team work, shift work system, employee motivation, etc have been used to control absenteeism and minimize employee turnover. But despite applying different tools and techniques, organizations and the researchers are unable to find a technique which can completely resolve the issue of absenteeism and employee turnover. (Onikoyi, Awolusi, & Boyede, 2015)There is huge cost of absenteeism no matter it is private company or governmental department. Infect, absenteeism is have such significance that it could lead a government department or a company to failure because absenteeism is one of the major contributory factors towards overall organizational performance. There is another reason why absenteeism has so much importance; the reason is that absenteeism is closely related with the performance of employees who are the backbone for each and every organization whether it is a company or a governmental department. So, when employees are absent from their jobs then the overall organizational performance will be decreased. (Onikoyi, Awolusi, & Boyede, 2015)
This brief research proposal includes; problem identification, problem justification, research problem, research objectives, literature review, research methodology which has sub-sections like; population, sample, methods for data collection and analysis, and what procedures have been followed by the researcher to meet ethical practices.
Problem Identification
We studied in the previous section that absenteeism has a key role in overall organizational performance. We can find a large number of research works which have explored the role of absenteeism in organizational performance but dissatisfaction with the present knowledge in the field is that we can find research works on the topic “Role of Absenteeism in Organizational Performance” but we cannot find any research work on the topic in context of Maldives. (Schuler, 2000)
Problem Justification
As we discussed above that dissatisfaction with the present knowledge in the field is that we can find research works on the topic “Role of Absenteeism in Organizational Performance” but we can’t find any research work on the topic in context of Maldives, therefore, this research work will be very useful if anyone wants to study the role of absenteeism in organizational performance in context of Maldives. This study will especially help in the field of human resource management for those businesses which are operating or intend to operate in Maldives and want to effectively control absenteeism. (Schuler, 2000)
Research Problem
We can find research works on the topic “Role of Absenteeism in Organizational Performance” but we can’t find any research work on the topic in context of Maldives, The problem which will be addressed in this study will be to study the role of absenteeism in organizational performance in context of Maldives. (Schuler, 2000)
Research Objective
Objective of this research is to explore the role of absenteeism in organizational performance in context of Maldives.
Literature Review
Addressing absenteeism issue is a one of key aspects of Human Resource Management. Human resource management is a management’s form in which such decisions are made and actions are taken which affect the relationship of employees and their organization. Human resources management is also defined as the coordination of the human resources for the achievement of the goals of the organization. The relationship between human resources and the organization is not a simple one, it is a complex relationship. Almost each and every human resource management and organizational performance expert considers human resources as the key factor in achievement of long term sustainability for an organization. (Briscoe, 2004)The individuals which are responsible for the management of human resources of an organization have tasks like; recruitment and selection, development of employees in a professional manner, evaluating performance, deciding benefits and compensation, ensuring safety and health, managing relationship with the employees, diversity management, analysis of jobs, designing of job, and forecasting human resources needs. (Dowling, 2008)
