Sam's Letters to Jennifer

1. The main character Jennifer is not very similar to me. She is thirty years old and is living on her own. She is an editor for a newspaper and goes to visit her grandmother in the hospital for the summer. When she is there she meets an old friend and they quickly fall in love. I don't think that I am like Jennifer in many ways, but simply because she is older. She has experienced more than I have because of her age. She has a job and is able to live on her own and make her own decisions. This leads to the main plot in the story, where Jennifer falls in love with Brendan. Brendan is an old friend that she sees when she goes to visit her grandmother. Her grandmother leaves her a journal where she has written her letters over time telling her about her life and everything that happens. So within the book, we are reading Sam's letters as Brendan and Jennifer are falling in love. Jennifer was an amazing character and we see her change more over time.

2. There are many challenges that Jennifer faces. The first one is that she must decide whether she wants to be with Brendan because he is suffering from cancer. He has said that he may not be able to survive. He has to choose between a risky surgery or trying to live it out, which only guarantees him a short amount of time living. She is not sure that if she decides to be with him if he will always be there. She could just be setting herself up for sadness. She has to make the decision before it is too late. Another difficult decision that she has to face is whether or not to continue living in Lake Geneva, where she is visiting her grandmother in the hospital or whether she should move back to Chicago. She decides to stay in Geneva with Brendan.

3. Jennifer causes a major change in Brendan's life, by becoming the love of his life. She meets him and they fall madly in love. Now Brendan
