"She Hate Me"
When one thinks of Spike Lee they think of controversial movies dealing with race, gender differences, and sex. "She Hate Me" is no different than what is expected from this angry film maker. Spike Lee steps out to take on many issues when creating this movie for the public. The audience by the end of the movie forgets what the main focus of the picture was; could it be corporate corruption, lesbian rights, whistle blowing, or just plain sex. Due to the unreal premise of the movie, Lee's random tangents within the movie, and soft ending, the potential of this movie to be a hit was lost.
Jack Armstrong (Anthony Mackie) is a successful VP for a drug producing firm called Progeia. However, in the wake of a disaster involving the FDA denying Progeia's application to sell an AIDS vaccination, Jack stumbles into a room where papers are being shredded. He is then advised in the strongest of terms to look the other way. He doesn't, and after he places a call to an ethics hotline, he is fired. But things don't stop there. Progeia's CEO (Woody Harrelson) ensures that Jacks' bank accounts are frozen and he can't get another job. With no access to money, Jack is in a tough position until his ex-fiancee, Fatima (Kerry Washington), walks back into his life. When Jack last saw Fatima, she was in bed with another woman. That affair ended their relationship just before they were about to get married. Now, Fatima is living with another woman, Alex (Dania Ramirez), and they have decided that they both want to have children. They are apprehensive of adoption and don't trust sperm banks ("it's like shopping for Gucci at Walmart"), so they want Jack to father their babies. The deal was after each deposit of sperm he made, Jack racked up $10,000. Eventually, after a great deal of deliberating, Jack agrees. And, before he realizes it, two women have become more than a dozen. Now, this is every man's dream and so far unrealistic it's not funny. What are they chances of a guy getting fired from his job and find another job that pays well dealing with having sex. Come on!
That's not the only problem with this movie. Spike Lee's attention span in these movies tends to shift from corruption and scandal to sex and love triangles and even to a friends problem with donating sperm. There are so many subplots within this movie, a viewer can forget what the main focus of this movie is. There is a subplot about a diabetic father and white mother going through problems. Another is a friend
