In the last ten years of my life, my family and I have been camping all over the state. We have traveled from Brazos Bend State Park to setting up tents at the beach. My parents have been camping ever since they were little kids. I would recommend this activity to anyone who likes the outdoors or loves to escape to a quiet place in the woods. However, if you decide to pack up and head for the woods, here are a few tips to help you have a pleasurable experience.

Before you begin your search to find the perfect campground, take some time to plan. First, figure out what you can afford, because many of the camp grounds prices change according to the time of year. If you like the summer time you're probably going to be looking at higher prices, because from the end of May through the end of August it is peak season for camp grounds. A relatively nice time to go is in the early spring when the weather is nice. The winter months up until the end of February are going to have your cheapest rates. Remember, many parks charge extra for pets and have certain requirements on how they should be leashed. Multiple camps give discounts if you stay a certain length of time.

Secondly, watch the news, or get on the web and check the weather forecast for the time you have chosen. You don't want to head out anticipating a great weekend and have it end up raining the whole time. Just in case of a sudden shower have a couple of indoor games such as cards, or video games to keep the kids busy.

Next, consider the surroundings around the camp ground. Several places have theme parks or historic sites near their grounds. Reservations are always helpful instead of last minute decisions. Some camp grounds have activities inside the park for the children. These activities can include anything from scenic trail rides, bike rides, or observing live forest insects.
