Single Sex Education

Think about how much better a sixteen year old high school boy would do in his schoolwork if he wasn't distracted by all of the dazzling young women surrounding him. The same applies to a young woman whom is trying to be studious, when she is constantly being bother by immature high school males. There are many very beneficial aspects of single-sex education. The issue is slowly becoming a nation wide epidemic. Many large cities around the country have adopted single Ð'-sex schools. Over the years much research has been conducted disputing the educational traits between boys and girls. Single sex schooling is undoubtedly a great idea that has already shown signs of success, and will undoubtedly have a strong presents in the future of education for years to come.

One of the main reasons that these single-sex schools are being permitted is because the government have provided Federal Laws to back these schools. The reason these Federal Laws are being put into effect is because Co-ed schooling has not been completely successful in evenly educating the youth of our country. America is the most powerful country in the world, and it is essential for its youth to be strong smart individuals. Co-ed publics schooling has many negative aspects that take away from a Child's complete education which he is entitled to. As stated by Diane Jean Schemo, "Low income children in urban schools learn better when separated from the opposite sex." It is a scientifically proven fact that high school boys and girls do indeed get easily distracted by the opposite sex. Instead of listening to his history lecture, a sixteen year old would be attempting to get the attention of the girls in class, and effectively learn nothing. If these ideas of single sex education were put into effect these would be less distractions and more work being done. It is also stated by Schemo that the number of single-sex public schools has risen from 3 up to 241 in less than ten years. One can only imagine what the education system will be like in years to come.

A big contribution to this nation wide epidemic of single-sex schooling is that boy's brains are unmistakably different in various ways than girls. Schemo states in her article that school research indicates boys are stronger in math while women excel more in literacy. If schools could bring the sexes together in separate classes, boys could focus on math, while the girls focus on literature. In the Newsweek article by Peg Tyre it states that girls have much more active frontal lobes that mature
