Summary:
Maple Leaf Foods was a leading global food processing company which operates in 120 plants across Canada and US and shipped its products all around the world. MLF appeared 100 years ago and grew very fast through mergers and acquisitions. Company operates in the form of two major groups: The protein value chain group and Bakery products group. Company’s main focus is to develop people of its organization at each level in order to get an edge or advantage over its competitors. Maple Leaf Foods work according to its seven strategic principles which are as follows:
- Invest in Market leadership
- Build our brands
- Drive cost out
- Innovation
- Add value to our products
- Add value tour customers
- Diversify globally
Six sigma is the measure of defects from the processes of organization and there should be 3.4 defects per million opportunities. It mainly focuses on identifying and measuring defects from our operations so that we can work for their elimination. For application of six sigma there is a complete frame work which is Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control (DMAIC).
MLF aim was to build a corporate culture of continues improvement which can achieved by the approach of Six Sigma and proper leadership elements in their employees, afterwards they got Leadership edge and six sigma as well. Their leadership edge tells the type of people work there and culture of MLF and six sigma states their way of doing work. MLF tends to link all of their leadership and management values with the six sigma to make them improve continuously.
