My Stress Factors

Stress is a state of mental or emotional strain. It is one of the most common conflicts in all of our lives. The three main types of stress are routine stress, stress brought about by a sudden negative change, and traumatic stress. Even though these types of stress sound bad, not all stress is bad. Some stress can be a protection response of the body. Some people experience stress from work, family, relationships, finances, home, and even school. There are also many other factors that cause people stress, but my factors of stress are college, parents, and home.

For example, college is now my new source of stress. In my classes, I found that my professors are not as accommodating and attentive as high school teachers. While high school teachers provide visual aids for their students, college professors utilize lectures in their teaching methods. It is very stressful when I do not quite grasp certain parts of a lecture and I am unable to ask the professor to explain the subject more thoroughly. I am going through adjustments with taking on more responsibilities as a college student. I am balancing my class work and time management with all of my classes during the week. Also, applying for any loan was definitely new for me. My parents and I struggled with completing specific sections of the Financial Aid and Loan Forms. There were difficulties in obtaining my stepfather’s electronic tax records.

Of course, the main cause of tension in my life are my parents. Since they separated, I have felt pressure when it comes to spending time with them. My mother has always been the strict parent. She constantly stresses me out when it comes to searching for a job and keeping up with my classes. My father is currently in jail, and I am his only child. It is a hassle when it comes to moving his furniture, withdrawing money from his bank account, keeping up with his bills, and storing his belongings. Both of my parents currently have money problems. My mother is the one who is the main financial supporter in our household, but she is also dealing with credit card debt. My stepfather and I are reliant on my mother. My father owes money to the Internal Revenue Service, and there is a block on his bank account.
