My Three Factors

Stress and stress management is any reaction or response made by the body to a new situation, and how to deal with the stress around you. As our textbook says, “Hans Selye, a Canadian physiologist who researched stress and its effects for 50 years, believed that human bodies are nearly always in some kind of stress,” (Human Relations; Strategies for success). Learning to deal with stress can be difficult depending on the situation. In the work field, stress is always occurring. It can range from something not being done right, all the way to a customer giving you a hard time. One example is when I worked at Walgreen’s, we had this one customer who would come in every week. Whenever she would come in, she always had something to complain about. This was stressful because she would continue on and repeat what she was saying for about an hour. What was also stressful about it was she would sit at the photo kiosk for three hours, print a ton of photos, and then decide she didn’t want any of them. You can deal with stress in many ways. Personally, what helps me with stress management is taking a walk. I get to clear my head and talk about the situation and decide what to do next.

Assertive behavior is when you stand up for your rights without threatening the self-esteem of the other person. Some may confuse this for aggressiveness, which is hurting others. Being assertive means that you are sticking up for yourself. For example, in high school I was in a Forensics class, which was speech and debate. You had to really be assertive, especially when you were one-on-one in a debate. All you had to do was stick up for what you were debating about. There are many advantages to having an assertive behavior such as your confidence and self-esteem are enhanced, both parties are more likely to feel respected and heard, and also you feel in control of
