Student Codes of Conduct

Codes of Conduct 2

One of the most important topics in regards to the ethics in an academic environment are the student codes of conduct. These codes of conduct must be followed closely and given much attention to in order to maintain a healthy learning experience. One of the most important codes of conduct is to avoid cheating. Using unauthorized notes for tests, copying work on or offline, are a few examples of cheating. Another similar code of conduct is fabrication. Even sharing MP3 music files among other students within the schools local area network would be a violation of one of these conducts for it puts the school itself in liability. Being aware of what these codes are and understanding how serious it maybe can help a student avoid violating them.

Cheating in an academic environment can be one of the most damaging violations to one’s educational experience. The student does not only violate a serious code of conduct, but the student in turn cheats herself/himself of an education. Not learning because of taking a “shortcut” can only lead the student to no where education-wise and possibly even career-wise. It becomes a waste of time and a waste of money. It is also not fair to other students that take the time to study hard and get cheated from a grading curve. There can be many reasons why a student may cheat. A student can be lazy and just does not want to put any work behind their tasks. Sometimes the pressures of doing well academically can force a student to cheat. Creating a schedule to study the material and to finish assignments can greatly reduce the load work that some students try to cram in one night. Focusing on how a student can take the pressure off of themselves can help avoid such a violation.
