QUESTION 1:
This article is about how France has recently become the first country in the world to ban disposable, plastic cutlery and dish ware. The new law states that all single-use cups, plates and other dish ware sold in the country will need to be compostable and made partly of bio-sourced materials. This new law has given businesses until Jan. 1, 2020 to comply with the measure.
QUESTION 2:
This article appealed to me because it presented an interesting new solution that France has implemented in other to decrease plastic pollution. As we know the over use and abuse of plastic is causing alarming health concerns and companies must begin takin affirmative action in order to begin remedying the plastic pollution problem.
QUESTION 3:
As the world’s population keeps growing, the amount of garbage being produced does as well. Over the years humanity has created this fast paced, on-the-go lifestyle that encourages and demands easily disposable products. These products range from anything to everything, bottles of water, plates, cups, razors, bags etc. Although we all enjoy the benefits these plastic products have provided us with, in turn the accumulation of these products has unfortunately led to increasing amounts of plastic pollution around the world. Plastic is composed of major toxic pollutants and can cause great harm to the environment and to our health. Therefore, in order for managers to successfully build a more sustainable business they must become well aware of the negative impacts that plastic is causing to the economy, the environment and to our healths. Managers must begin implementing products that are biodegradable and environmentally friendly.
QUESTION 4:
The economic consequences of climate change: Plastic pollution is when large amounts of plastic have accumulated in an area and have in turn negatively impacted the environment, creating problems for plants, wildlife, and even us humans. Plastic is an incredibly useful material now a days, however its downfall is that it is made from toxic compounds that are known to cause illness, and because it is meant for durability, it is not biodegradable. “France, which hosted the landmark Paris Climate Change Conference last year, has stepped up its commitment to climate action and other environmental issues. The country’s plastic dish ware ban follows a similar prohibition on plastic bags, which began in July” (Article). This increase in plastic pollution is increasing global warming and increasing the negative impact on climate change. Based on the Stern Review on the Economics of Climate Change by Sir Nicolas Stern, we can see that climate change has a negative affect on the economy and if the problems are not quickly remedied it can pose great economic losses in the future, which bad for both the company and country as a whole. Simply put, the Stern Review sates that the benefits of strong, early action on climate change considerably outweigh the costs. He also states that if managers do not take affirmative action to stop the rapid climate change in the next few decades there will be risks of major disruption to economic and social activity. On a scale similar to those associated with the great wars and the economic depression of the first half of the 20th century (Lesson 4). Thus, if managers take early action on creating sustainable companies by reducing plastic pollution, it can save them thousands even millions of dollars in the long run. France has taken a huge leap front in helping stop the rapid growth of climate change and managers should follow their lead.
