Concept of Operations:
a) Describe what Concept of Operations Document is and does.
The concept of operations documents the multiple views of the operational system from the stakeholders. The document is written in a non technical language and addresses the needs and goals of the system, again from the stakeholder perspective.
b) What are the input documents needed to develop a Concept of Operations?
Project goals and objectives are needed to define the system and its purpose. System constraints and limitations should be made clear, as well as an assessment of needs should be conducted. This will provide the CONOPS a starting point to branch off from. Additional documents, such as feasibility assessment are useful since it evaluates if the theoretical system being developed from needs and viewpoints is feasible or not.
c) What are the Process Activities used to develop the Concept of Operations?
First step would be to revisit the project goals and modify them to match the multiple viewpoints of the stakeholders. Then construct operational scenarios describing how the system will operate in the perspective of the various stakeholders. Diagrams, UML and other techniques can be employed to capture these scenarios. Lastly is to document these scenarios developed, which include the system mission and goals, operational scenarios, system attributes, constraints and operational environment.
d) What are the output documents from developing a Concept of Operations?
The CONOPS document arises from the process activities. This basically describes the system from multiple stakeholders' perspectives. In addition, the CONOPS will be used as an input and important reference for the validation process. A Validation plan will also be created mapping to the stakeholders needs of the System (presented in the CONOPS document).
Requirements:
a) What is a Requirement?
A requirement states what is to be done, how well it should be done and under what conditions it should be accomplished. Basically, when individual requirements are gathered, it defines the functions of the system, its metrics for performance and the environment it should function in.
b) What are the Performance Requirements?
Performance Requirements are a defined standard on how well the system should accomplish its functions.
Ex: The system shall load within 3 seconds.
c) What are Functional Requirements?
Functional requirements state what system should do.
Ex: The system user interface shall indicate the user's name.
d) What are Environmental Requirements?
