Today, it is rather universal to find young adults working while in high school. There are several reasons why an adolescent might want to, or even have to, work while there also going to school. Throughout the world, it’s not uncommon that you find children and young adults working to help in financing their households because it is a must. However, in the United States, most young adults are easily influenced with the material wealth of their icons as portrayed by the media, resulting in the need to “keep up with the latest trends”. Young people feel the need to stay in fashion and deal with peer pressure that come with a high price that most parents refuse to or cannot afford. Therefore, leading high school aged kids to fend for them. In this aspect, I approve of young people working a part-time job while in school, so they can learn how to manage their money and learn different responsibilities.

Money is a very significant attribute in young peoples’ lives, and balancing school and a job are not as hard as some people may think, in my opinion. Many young adults, including myself, worked a part-time job while in high school. In fact, two of my closest friends who were around the same age and I, worked at the same job. We worked 15 hours during the week and ten hours on the weekends at a beauty supply store. Working while in high school helped us to learn responsibility and accountability, and it ultimately benefited us in helping us with our job experience today.

Additionally, young people working while in high school assists in teaching financial management and adult responsibilities such as time management, organizing tasks, multi-tasking, and balancing daily activities.

The part-time job I held in high school gave me the responsibility of handling tasks and duties. More importantly, as a teenager, it provided me with the ability to earn an income that didn’t come from my parents.
