SUBJECT: THE CONSUMPTION OF ELECTRONIC TELECOMMUNICATION DEVICES
The objective of my research is to come to understand the reasons why Concordia students have a particular proclivity to consume electronic telecommunication devices in an unsustainable way. My report will be analyzing the university’s students’ consumption of cellphones, specifically the rate at which they change it and the reason why they do so.
With the advent of the communication era that is the 21st century, we have witnessed the proliferation of a new device: the cellular phone. First a mean of wireless communication for business people, it has become a personal digital assistant for the masses, managing every aspect of our lives. As of 2013, there were nearly 7 billion subscriptions of mobile phones. Better cameras, slicker designs, crisper screens, everyone is now in the search of the lattermost device, and manufacturers understood it, as new cellphones are presented every month.
As a tech savvy student, I am fascinated yet concerned about this phenomenon. Proclaimed as the future of mobile computing, these devices are made of toxic components and heavy metals that are available in a limited amount on earth. It is clear that students consume cellphones in an unsustainable way; the reasons behind their behaviour are intriguing, and a better understanding of the causes of this consumption might help correct their demeanor.
As the purpose of my research is to fully comprehend the mentioned situation, I plan on getting a full portrait of it through a wide array of primary and secondary sources.
