Diagnostic Essay:
The new history wars
The history wars are an ongoing public debate over the interpretation of the history.Multiple people think history is not being taught like it should be.
Studying history allow us to understand everything that happened in the past and expand our knowledge. In this article the author talks about how history teachers don't teach the important facts of history and emphasize the negative aspects of the nation's history. However learning history is learning the good and negative aspects of it. The author mentionned the changements that college board wanted to do with the history books. College board revised history books adding importants facts and evenments that sudents should know and that teacher don't usually teach. In my opinion, history teacher focus more on memorizing a lot of names, dates rather than teaching importants facts. The author also explains that "Fewer and fewer college professors are teaching the United States history our grandparents learned" which is true because history is a collection of events based on differents people's point of view. The story can easily change throughout the years and become something completely different than it originally was. That is why I think it is a good think to revise history books. I agree with the author and I think that it was a good thing that the educators and historian add more essential knowledge and allow students to learn more about the nation's history.
