EXPERIMENT No 9

AIM: - To simulate and plot the radiation pattern of horn antenna

SOFTWARE: - CADFEKO Simulation

PROCEDURE:-

  1. Create the model
  1. Define the following variables:
  • freq = 400e6 (operating frequency)
  • lambda = c0/freq (free space wavelength)
  • lr = 0.55*lambda (length of the reflector)
  • li = 0.50*lambda (length of the active element)
  • ld = 0.45*lambda (length of the director)
  • d = 0.15*lambda (spacing between elements)

  1. Create the active element with start point as (0,-li/2, 0) and the end point as (0, li/2, 0). Set the label as active element
  2. Add a port on a segment in the center of the wire    
  3. Add a voltage source to the port
  4. Create the wire for the reflector. Set the start point as (-d, -lr/2, 0) and the end point as (-d, lr/2, 0). Set the label as reflector.
  5. Create the wire for the director. Set the start point as (d,-ld/2, 0) and the end point as (d, ld/2, 0). Set the label as reflector.
  6. Set the frequency to the defined variable frequency freq
  1. Requesting Calculations

                                  The solution requests are-

  1. Create a vertical cut far field request
  2. Create a horizontal cut far field request
  3. Create a 3D far pattern field request

  1. Meshing the information
  1. Triangle edge length : Suggest        
  2. Wire segment length : Suggest
  3. Tetrahedral edge length : Suggest
  4. Wire segment radius : 2e-3

  1. EM validate

                 After the model has been meshed, run EM validate. Take note  

                 of any warnings & errors. Correct any error before running the

                 FEKO solution kernel.
