School Uniforms
Uniforms in schools are an issue for students, parents, and schools everywhere in today's society. Some people do not agree with uniforms because they violate only one issue, which is their freedom to dress anyway they want. Society feels that uniforms strip the identity of the students and forms a lack of creativity throughout schools. However, uniforms are very helpful and bring many positive benefits to society. Uniforms are useful in preventing violence and ridicule, establishing a better learning atmosphere, and saving time and money.
School uniforms help reduce violence and ridicule because students will all be wearing the same thing. Students would not have to worry about trying to fit in with a certain crowd just by the type of clothing he or she is wearing. Today, students make fun of or even beat up each other for not wearing either designer clothing or even a certain color. Some students may even come home crying because another student made fun of what they were wearing. This situation then affects not only the students, but also the parents and sometimes-even teachers. Everyone always thinks of gangs with the connection of violence and school uniforms, but that is only one part of it. Yes, gangs can create more violence; however, popular crowds can create just as much agony for the "un-cool" kid. A student should feel safe and secure when heading to school, instead of worrying about if they are going to get embarrassed today for what type of clothes they are wearing. School uniforms would allow everyone to look the same and treat others as equals. Students are harassed for the way they look and the way they act, students should not have to worry about what clothes they need to wear as another stress factor. Also with wearing school uniforms, it could prevent places to put guns, weapons, and even drugs. Today, baggy pants and oversized sweatshirts are the stylish thing to wear. This type of clothing allows hiding places for these weapons, which increase school shootings, fights, and other violence. School uniforms would be able to reduce these problems and allow for a safer environment. Uniforms would help put less attention on certain groups and bring the school together as a whole. The labeling of the "cool" kid or the "loser" would not be as prevalent throughout schools. Students would get to know a person's personality instead of judging their cover.
School uniforms also produce a better atmosphere throughout the school and within society. Students wearing school uniforms help produce a consistent look. This professional look helps not only the students concentrate better, but allows the teachers to be able to teach. Teachers can focus more clearly, when all the students look the same. They can focus on the subject that they are teaching, instead of focusing on the brightly colored shirt that one of their students decided to wear that day. It allows the teacher to be able to grade the students work instead of their clothes. The students can also concentrate better because again there are not bright colors sitting next to them or cute little poems written on the back of shirts that can cause a distraction. School uniforms do away with all of the distractions that surround the student at school. Uniforms would allow most of the temptations that surround a student to disappear and give the student opportunity to get the full experience out of
