What is the importance of learning manual drafting?
According to Showman (2006), hand drafting is the quickest way to learn about the different kinds of line in drawing. It is also important in effectively understanding how projected drawings (i.e. perspective views, etc.) work.
What is the importance of learning how to use AutoCAD?
According to Khemani (2008), CAD software is being used by a large scale of engineering professionals and firms for various reasons. It is important to learn how to use AutoCAD because it increases the productivity of a designer. It helps the designer in visualizing his finished product, and its parts. The designer can also quickly modify the product if needed. AutoCAD also improves the quality of design because of its accuracy.
Which one is easier to use? Why?
What are the advantages and disadvanatges of manual drafting?
There are different advantages of using manual drafting. First is the low cost of drawing equipment. all you need is a drafting table or a drawing board, pencil/eraser, a straightedge, a t-square, triangles, French curves, a mini-drafter, and a compass. A drawing board, mini-drafter and pencils/eraser are much cheaper than a CAD package. You also don’t need a state of the art technology to produce drawings. (Javi, 2018)
According to Tania, the disadvantages of manual drafting are the drafters will need a large space when dealing with larger drawings. It is also time consuming to reproduce drawings. It will also require a large storage facility to store the manual drawings.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of using AutoCAD?
In using AutoCAD, it is easier to create better quality designs. It has great tools for designing that provides great accuracy in the drawings. Designs and drawings in AutoCAD can easily be saved for future use and reference. These saved drawings can also be easily modified if needed and printed whenever it is required. These drawings can also be easily reproduced as many copies as possible in no time. (Javi, 2018)
