                 Why chinese mothers are superior

Amy chua is a professor in yale university, she has two daughters ,both of whom are very excellent in study and music. In the article ”why Chinese mothers are superior” ,AmyChua shows us her way of educating her daughters. She is very strict with her children, asking them to get straight As, forcing them to play the piano or violin, not allowing them to sleep at their friends home which is very common in America .

In the article , amy compares Chinese mothers with western mothers. Firstly, western mothers care a lot about their children’s dignity, so they hardly ever blame their children for their bad performances in study, and they respect their children. While Chinese mothers consider their children always have the ability to be the best. So they simply scold their children for their imperfectness and they think it is their way to encourage or motivate.

Secondly, Chinese mothers believe that their kids owe them everything,so kids should obey mothers’ order and make them proud.

Thirdly, Chinese mothers believe that they know what is best for their children,so they are sensible enough to decide their kids’ hobbies and make rules for them.

The article caused a heated debate on which way of education is better, the traditional Chinese one or the American one.  In fact, some readers comment that kids who are educated in such strict way may become the so-called successful people, but they are also more likely to suffer from psychological problems. Some are convinced that tiger mothers can rasied their kids into skillful persons who may be good employees in the future, but not the persons with initiative and creativeness .

Well , from my perspective , both ways of education have their advantages,Chinese mothers may have their kids skillful and persistant while western mothers may have their kids creative and active, so why not strike a balance between the two methods.

Amy once said in an interview, she is strict to her daughters because she is in America where teachers and schools have already given a lot of space and freedom to the kids, so she has to force the kids to foster some good habits and qualities.  Which means if she raises her kids in china , she will probably pay more attention to leading them to discover more interests and joy in learning.
