Fulfilling Career
Working as a Certified Nursing Assistant is hard work, but I’ve enjoyed every moment of it. I worked with mostly old people who are in need of rehab. As time went by I could see them healing and getting healthier over time. I became so attached to the people that I was taking care of, which then I began to care so much about the residents feelings and needs. I have always enjoyed working with others because it makes me feel very heartwarming. It hurts me to see them hurting or not being able to do things on their own, but it makes my heart happy to be able to care for the patients. There’s no better feeling then when they are able to be sent home with their families. For me, the purpose of education is being able to have a job that gives you satisfaction. To get that career path that I am passionate about, that will give me self-fulfillment in my life, and help those around me.
By getting an education I can work towards getting that job that I am passionate about. For example, I want to be a Registered Nurse so to help me with that I got my CNA license in high school. Somedays it was really hard to go because of how stressful it is. By the end of the day, I felt very good about myself because I feel as if I’m helping others in my community. I had a patient who would say “thank you,” to me every time I helped him. It made my day every time. I find CNA to be a wonderful job, but others find it to be the worst job ever. As time goes by you get emotionally attached and care a lot about the residents that you are helping. I thought I would never find a job that I absolutely love, but I have found that CNA and hopefully soon to be nurse is something that I will be really passionate about.
I want that self-fulfilling job that will help provide for a family. For the future, I want to be able to have that job where I am able to provide for me and my children. Also, by going to college you are being a good example to your kids, or if you have younger siblings. For me, I know that I am setting a great example for my younger sister, who is always going to me for advice. My mom didn’t go to college and my dad went to college for a year, so I’m trying to set a good example for my younger sister. I want to be that role model by getting a higher education. Becoming an RN you are taking on the role of helping others to make sure that they are staying healthy and getting the right medications that they need. When I worked as a CNA, I worked with some really rude nurses who seemed like they hated their jobs. They would treat the residents very poorly. I felt as if they were just doing their job for the money, not for the love or enjoyment of the job. To be a nurse you have to be able to love what you are doing. I consider the purpose of education not to only be because of how high paying the job is, but also how much a job gives you the fulfillment. Before I started working at Highland Care Center, a lady broke her hip trying to reach for a lemon drop. She was a decent sized woman and had to be lifted, or had to use a sliding board whenever she got up. She always needed lots of attention to make sure that she was taken care of properly. She was the sweetest lady and just by helping her get ready for bed, or helping her get in bed with a big smile on her face made me feel very happy.
