Writing Process
The process I used in my writing of this essay and the first was to first find a story that interested me and something that I felt I would be able to relate with and write about. I read several of the stories before I finally arrived at my first story The Yellow Wallpaper by Gilman. That was the easy part I did not see the second part about how we now had to find a second story to compare and contrast each other to. So I then set out to find another story that was similar but yet different. I generally read all of the classmate discussions and saw that a couple of students were reading some very interesting literature that I could relate with my own. I dug a little deeper and found that the story I wanted to choose was going to be The Story of an Hour by Chopin.
I had to read each story several times to find similarities that I could eventually write about. I could see that both women were unhappy, both women were repressed by their husbands, both stories were written around the same time period, and that both of these women were looking for some type of freedom in the end.
I began writing out my outline to see where this paper was going to go and what extra did I need to pull out from my notes to make the paper flow smoothly. I read the resources you recommended and watched the videos to help bring this paper together. I started with taking the three points from my outline and creating a rough thesis statement. Since from my outline I could kind of see where I wanted my audience to go I began to write the introduction. Using other students critiques I tried to fix it where it was not making sense.
I then started sketching out my paragraphs. What really helped was the video that showed how to start those paragraphs and how to work the two stories together. That was a very helpful introduction to this style of writing. So I just tried to mimic what the video showed and tried to keep my sentences in the same format.
Later when we started discussing the paraphrasing I revamped my paragraphs to use the paraphrasing. Which I will be honest was my first time doing that it is kind of scary, did not know if I was using the right keywords or if I was paraphrasing enough. That part of the writing definitely took me out of my comfort zone and gave an out of the box thinking. I sent that off to be critiqued and made necessary adjustments and continued on with coming up with some type of conclusion.
