INTRODUCTION

Experience involves all the events, activities a person is exposed to or involved in either directly or indirectly. The experience of a university student starts from the point he/she enters the university after securing an admission till the time that student is awarded with the degree and walks out of the university. In our project we are going to study and evaluate the overall experience of Air University students (Islamabad Campus) during their academic years.

Air University is a federally chartered, public sector university that was established in the year 2002, its campuses are currently located in Islamabad and Multan. Our study is based on the Islamabad campus which comprises of seven departments with around 4000+ enrolled students at the moment. It offers undergraduate, graduate and post graduate level programs.

Students who are complaining about their university/institution has become a norm now days and it is gradually increasing day by day. Their complaints are not just associated with studies but include many other factors as well. In this study we will check the overall satisfaction level of Air University students at the Islamabad Campus along with their experience and search for the most crucial factors that affect the satisfaction level among students.

PROBLEM STATEMENT

“Study the factors that greatly affect the overall experience and satisfaction level of an Air University student”

OBJECTIVES

The objectives of the study under consideration are:

  • The extent, to which the AU students are satisfied with their experience in the university
  •  Identifying the factors that play a key role in improving or deteriorating the experience.
  • If students from different departments have a similar experience and satisfaction.
  • Whether the student’s expectations really match the reality.
  • If the current students want to return to Air University for further studies.

SIGNIFICANCE

After this study has been done the findings will be used to make corrections and to improve the processes at Air University especially the factors identified in the survey will be given greater importance in the future. In this way the students currently studying there along with the ones who will join AU in the future will have a better experience and satisfaction level than before.

RESEARCH QUESTIONS

  1. Is there any relationship between overall experience & satisfaction of a student?
  2. Do the students in different departments of Air University have a similar experience?
  3. What are the factors that affect the overall experience and satisfaction of a student?
  4. Are the student’s expectations very different from reality?
  5. Do the enrolled students want to return to Air University for further studies?

LITERATURE REVIEW

Experience of a university student includes everything he feels the moment student enters the university till the moment he is awarded by a degree. So, his experience maybe positive and maybe negative, we are trying to find out all the factors which might affect the experience of a student. This study will identify the factors through which we can measure student’s satisfaction and their experience.

Students’ satisfaction defined as a short term attitude, resulting from an evaluation of students’ educational experiences (Elliot, 2001), it is a positive antecedent of student loyalty (IM Salinda, May 26, 2017) and is the result and outcome of an educational system.

Students’ satisfaction is a multidimensional process which is influenced by different factors. According to Walker-Marshall & Hudson (1999) Grate Point Average (GPA) is the most influential factor on student satisfaction (Navaro), (Appleton-Knapp, 2006) identified two groups of influences on student satisfaction in higher education as personal and institutional factors. Personal factors cover age, gender, employment, preferred learning style, student’s GPA and institutional factors cover quality of instructions, promptness of the instructor’s feedback, clarity of expectation, teaching style. (krishnan, 2013) identified quality of lecturers, quality of physical facilities and effective use of technology as key determinant factors of student satisfaction. As well as, student satisfaction in universities is greatly influenced by quality of class room, quality of feedback, lecturer-student relationship, interaction with fellow students, course content, available learning equipment, library facilities and learning materials (Bogdan Sojkin, May, 2002) (García-Aracil, January 2009) (George D. Kuh, 2001) In addition to that, teaching ability, flexible curriculum, university status and prestige, independence, caring of faculty, student growth and development, student centeredness, campus climate, institutional effectiveness and social conditions have been identified as major determinants of student satisfaction in higher education. (Jacqueline Douglas, 2006) (Palacio, 2002)
