a. Multiple modes exist. The smallest value is shown |
The range is 6312.5, which means that the differences between the lowest checking balance and the highest checking balance is 6312.5. The first quartile is 2803.13, which means that there are 25% customers’ checking balance is below 2803.12. The third quartile is 4866.88, which means that there are 75% customers’ checking balance is below 4866.88. The standard deviation is 1492.26, which shows how spread out the data is. It is calculated by the square root of variance. Variance is the average number of squared the differences between customers’ checking balance and the mean of checking balance.

The mean of the balance is 3749.67, and the standard deviation of the balance is 1492.26. The IQR of the balance is 4866.88-2803.12=2063.76. The 1.33SD=1984.71. The IQR is not equal to 1.33SD. The mean of the balance is not equal to the median and the mode. And according to the Q-Q plot, most of data are not on the regression line. Thus, the distribution of checking account balances is not a normal distribution.
