BE THANKFUL FOR WHAT YOU HAVE
Welcome you to Life’s Present Program on channel Young TV. My name’s Quynh Nhu. Today, I’m going to talk about the topic “Be thankful for what you have”.
First of all, I’d like to introduce to you a video made by Korea Food for Hungry International Organization. It was shared on social network quickly within few days.
I hope you can understand a little about what we’re going to talk on today program.
The moral lesson drawn through the video is that be thankful for what you have, because maybe what you have is the dream of others.
However, within us, how many people can do this??
So many of us live in a state of wanting more. Human beings have naturally the greed, never satisfied, always complain and look for better thing. That is the advantage, but not always appropriate .These people can’t have a healthy and comfortable spiritual life because they feel unhappy, dissatisfied with what is around and is always busy to look for something better.
In reality, there are so many people who don’t know the value of what they have.
They feel upset because their parents are not rich.
They feel annoyed when their parents scold them.
They spend too much time surfing websites instead of gathering friends together or even jogging in the parks.
They often complain that they’re not able to eat delicious food, buy top-brand clothes.
They also complain when getting early in the morning to go to work or school and think school is pointless and waste their time.
They’re weary because they don’t have a lot of money.
Have you ever had feelings or done actions like these people? Do you know that…
If your parent are still alive or even scold you, you are luckier than those who don’t have a chance to see their parents.
If you have food in the refrigerator, clothes on your back, a roof over head, and a place to sleep, you are richer than 75% of this world.
If you have money in the bank, in your wallet, you are among the top 8% of the world wealth.
There are over 121 million children in the world out of education.
As a result, whatever you have at present is greatly valuable. It’s your achievements and the foundation for your future. Therefore, there is no reason you’re not satisfied and happy with it. There is famous saying that “Learn to appreciate what you have before time makes you appreciate what had”. If so, how to appreciate the life you have?
The first method I suggest is to Stop Complaining, Comparing and Get to Know Someone Who Doesn't Have What You Have:
Think of something you own that you might take for granted. Now talk to someone who doesn't have that thing. What's life like for them? What difficulties do they face without the thing you don't think twice about having? This means that…
The next time you complain of not receiving lots of presents for your birthday, you should remember that there are people around the world who are not making it to their first birthday.
The next time you watch TV or turn on the light, just remember that there are around 1.6 billion people in the world who live without electricity.
The next time you are sitting at home comfortable, watching TV while drinking or relaxing, just remember that there are billions of people in this world who are less fortune than you.
Therefore, don’t complain when you’re given something you don’t like and then stop comparing yourself to others and see the good in your life. Just smile and appreciate it.
Secondly, Appreciate What You Have by Practicing Gratitude. In other words, Change your attitude, change your life.
People who are grateful are more satisfied with their relationships with friends and family. They’re happier, less depressed and less stressed. So how can you start living with more gratitude?
For your parents, they have done so many things for you. You will never say thank enough. The way to cherish the things parents have sacrificed for you is to listen to their opinion, but do not argue and expect them to immediately understand your problems. Let use your patience to make up for the difference between the two generations. You should spend time to eat with them, talk to them and listen to them.
