There are many characteristics in making a successful company owner. But the top 3, are good communication skills, self-motivation, and money management. I say this because I see these characteristics in my father.
First of all, communication skills. My father’s business is to make motor cycle helmets and sell them to customers in Japan. He makes his helmets in China, then ships to Japan and sometimes there can be delays and problems. Even though, delays and problems don’t occur much, when they do my father will inform the store instantly. And through the honesty, my father has made trustworthy relationships between other companies and store owners. Another communication skill that my father has is that on the company’s website, there is a tab where customers can say what they like or dislike, any new ideas or suggestions. Every so often my father will take a look at the feedbacks and decide what to do next.
Secondly, self-motivation. My father loves motor cycles and cars, and to protect the drivers, he feels like he is doing a good deed and job for the community. Even though at times my father will come home exhausted, he reminds himself that he is protecting the drivers and he is doing a good deed. Another way that he motivates himself if by thinking about his family. One year just after I was born, my father’s company was really in big trouble. The Japanese marketing dropped and my father was barely making profit. He said he actually thought of selling off his company so he had enough money to just live. But thinking about myself and my mother, he just couldn’t sell off his company.
Lastly, money management. My father deals with big amounts and small amount of money, and he keeps track of every interaction he makes. And to never for get to keep track, he keeps track of money he uses in his private too. And because he’s not too good with keeping all track of his money, he only has 2 employees right now. And asks other companies to help him construct, send and sell his products.
In short, to become a good company owner you need 3 main skills. You need to be able to communicate with other companies and build trust. You also need to be able to self-motivate and push yourself at your hardest times. And you need to be able to manage you money and make adjustments to do so.
