- Introduction
- Background
The information system which I choose is a food order system for a pizzeria called Crust Gourmet Pizza Bar (abbreviate to Crust as follow). The Crust is an Australian pizza brand and it was established in Sydney in 2001. Now, the Crust has a great number of branches in Canberra, Melbourne and Peth. The motto of Crust is “pizza is not just fast food but a dish”.
- Reason
Now, I work as a pizza maker in Crust in Weston branch for three months. Therefore, the reason why I choose this pizzeria food order system as my analytical system mainly because I deeply know its system through my three months’ work experience and I consider this information system is high-efficiency.
- overview of Crust system
The system can divide into three part and there are reception, kitchen and delivery system. The main functions of reception is both receiving customers and answering the phone, then recording customers’ orders and requirements (e.g. shop or pick up or delivery, add some food material or not). Usually, there are only two assistants on reception and five drivers on delivery system. Differently, Kitchen has three roles: pizza roller (on duty in busy time such as Friday and Saturday), pizza maker and pizza cutter. To be specific, Pizza rollers focus on cutting the pizza dough into different types and rolling them into pizza. Then, pizza makers will make pizza with adding different food materials and put them into oven. In the end, pizza cutters add sauce and seasoning, and then pack into pizza box.
The main process is that assistants receive customers’ order and create order receipt through computer. After kitchen gains receipt, rollers, makers and cutter will finish pizza. In the end, drivers will delivery pizzas to customers in fifteen minutes. During the process, all data and details such as customers’ order, customers’ detail and pizza sale amount will be recorded in computer (Data warehouse).

This system only use for food order and delivery food to customers.
- Function
After I studying a course call E-commerce (INSF 7040), I conclude this system into two main function OLTP (online transaction processing) and OLAP (online analytical processing). OLTP are used for financial transaction, customer management and sales. It means that Crust system support pay online and it can record payment details. OLAP are used to analyse the data. It means that Crust system can not only record sale data but also can put data into chart that let manager easy to analyse and make a report. In my opinion, this function is most useful in this system. For example, according to pizza sale amounts in different types, Crust can know which pizzas are the most popular, so kitchen can prepare more materials for this pizza and reduce waste (buy less materials for other pizza). In addition, the system has many functions list as follow.

*Create customer account (customers can recharge their account)

* Store finder (Crust App can show you the nearby location)
* Manage customers (membership, qualification of gaining coupon, record location)
- Subsystem
This system divides into four subsystem: reception system (include order system and payment system), delivery system and kitchen system.
- boundary
Boundary include physical boundary and conceptual boundary. The physical boundary is that the computer machine in the Crust pizza store and the conceptual boundary is that stuffs, customers and data store in the circle of the system, the Crust domain is the conceptual boundary on the website.
- Interface & Environment
The interface of system include Crust website, Crust App and phone call. Environment is the ACT of Canberra.
- Input & output
The input of this system is customers’ request, and output is the satisfied food.

Positive feedback: successful payment and receipt.
Negative feedback: error of payment and tips for operating again.
- User requirement
- Functional requirement
The functional requirement is what users desire to have and Crust system can perform
- The system should store all details of customers’ order.
Explain: every order be finished, both pizzas details (pizza type, pizza price) and customer’s details (location, phone number) will be recorded into data store. In the next time, the system can identify whether this customer is membership or not. In addition, according to this data, Crust can gain the marketing information like the most popular pizza type (food materials purchase reasonable), the most frequently delivery location (whether establish braches on there) and so on.
Business advantage: Reduce material cost and easy to make analysis report.
- The system can make food order and food delivery. (Relationship between entities is closely connect.)
Explain: The reception system link to kitchen system and delivery system closely. When there is a customer finishes meal ordering, the receipt will be sent to kitchen at the first time, and delivery system will send delivery request to drivers. In this time, delivery drivers will come to take pizza out after 15 minutes (pizza pass through oven time).
Business advantage: save time and high work effectiveness. In addition, this process’s medium is the receipt, so the language requirement for stuffs is low because they only work follow what the receipt write instead of communication.
- This system should have online payment
Explain: Customers can choose different kinds of payment methods online. If customers feel payment is convenient for them to finish, they will glad to buy food in the next time.
Business advantage: save customers time and attract customers to buy pizza.
- This system can create customers personal account and has function like recharge money, cancel account, use coupon in the account.
Explain: Customers can create Crust account as membership. After that, they can recharge money to the account and they will gain some coupons. Besides, as memberships, they can enjoy some discount of pizza and gain a free pizza on their birthday.
Business advantage: not only benefit to attract customers but also good for customers’ management.
