Chapter 1

The Problem and Its Background

Introduction

In political economics, entrepreneurship is a process of identifying and starting a business venture, sourcing and organizing the required resources and taking both the risks and rewards associated with the venture.

The entrepreneur is commonly seen as an innovator - a generator of new ideas and business processes. Management skill and strong team building abilities are often perceived as essential leadership attributes for successful entrepreneurs. Political economist Robert Reich considers leadership, management ability, and team-building to be essential qualities of an entrepreneur.

According to (Schumpeter), an entrepreneur is willing and able to convert a new idea or invention into a successful innovation. Entrepreneurship employs what Schumpeter called "the gale of creative destruction" to replace in whole or in part inferior offerings across markets and industries, simultaneously creating new products and new business models.

Entrepreneurs are essential to our society because they build the economic engines that help our economy grow. They foster technological and social change, and their innovation and creativity forge our future. The Rothman Institute of Entrepreneurship, a nationally regarded entrepreneurship center, assists FDU students in achieving their entrepreneurial goals .Some experts think of entrepreneurs as people who are willing to take risks that other people are not. Others define them as people who start and build successful businesses.

Entrepreneur skill are combination of personal, social, emotional and intellectual aspect that one entrepreneur must possess in order to be successful. These skills are very important to consider for these will define the level and characteristic of one entrepreneur. Hence, if it’s not present in one, progress of any endeavor will be dramatically affected.

In today’s economic status of our country where employment and other income related matters are big problems and issue. Becoming an entrepreneur is one of the best way to generate source of living and eventually create jobs for qualified workers.

Now a days many businessmen startup a small businesses called the Sole Proprietorship. The sole proprietorship is the simplest business form under which one can operate a business. The sole proprietorship is not a legal entity. It simply refers to a person who owns the business and is personally responsible for its debts.

To be a sole proprietorship, you do not have to take any formal or legal steps at the federal, state, or local level, (Weltman) says. "As long as you are the only owner, you automatically become a sole proprietorship by conducting business she adds.

Depending upon the city or municipality where you set up shop, you may need to register your business or obtain business and/or occupancy licenses. Oster young suggests contacting the nearest government-sponsored
Small Business Development Center (SBDC). The Small Business Administration maintains an SBDC locator. They can usually provide you with step-by-step instructions on how to set up a sole proprietorship in compliance with all local laws and regulations.

One key component to starting a business is
writing a business plan. The plan serves as a roadmap so you know the order in which to implement actions necessary to start and grow the business, (Weltman) says. It's also useful in making you focus on various aspects of the business, such as obtaining start-up capital and deciding whether or not you will be selling through the Web.
