I feel that Portia should have got a better funeral, and recognition of her life in the book. She had importance in the play, she was the wife of Brutus. When Brutus was troubled about killing Caesar the next day, she was there for him and wanted to know what was going on. Brutus told her lies, that he was sick, and that’s what he was worried about. She didn’t believe these untruths. She was a strong, smart woman, who deserved a proper funeral; written in the book, Julius Caesar, by William Shakespeare.
She didn’t get much remembrance in the book, and I would change it so she did get a good memorial of her life. I think that Brutus should have given a speech on his late wife, of how she was beautiful and how he will miss her. I don’t know if they actually had a good obsequies, over 2000 years ago, I want to think that they did have a good funeral for her. To match the story, it could have been in a calm setting, like in their church. Mark Antony, Brutus, and others can participate in heartbreaking speeches on Portia’s death. So I’d do it like this:
“In the remembrance of Portia, we are gathered to remember her life. The lovely wife of Brutus” says Mark Antony. “I will always miss and love my beautiful wife, Portia,” Brutus continued “We had a wonderful life together so let’s pray to the gods for her tragedy. She has passed on too soon, I may never find another woman to my heart.” (Brutus’s speech should be in this type of format, perhaps changing words to match the language they spoke back then.) Portia deserved a speech from Brutus, just like he gave a monologue after Caesar’s assassination. She didn’t get much recognition. I feel that since she was connected to the main character, she needed to have a eulogy.
