‘Faking the Grade’ is a documentary directed by Andy Blicq which analyzes our dishonest modern day culture. Students have developed strong incentive to lie their way to get ahead of their classmates. Moreover, with the modern technology, it is even easier to access information for cheating purposes. Andy’s use of strategies like statistics, examples and insight from authority figures assisted in proving that dis-valuing honesty has reached new heights.
The documentary explores the statistics of the student body and their cheating techniques. According to a survey, 50% admitted to cheating in universities while 75% of them admitted to cheating in high school. The modern day culture has now developed into a scenario of who can cheat better. A recent research conducted in U.S displays the hard time student’s face while making a distinction of right and wrong. These morals are then carried with the students throughout their lives. In the near future, the society will be filled with individuals who have cheated their way to the top making it unfair for the people who have worked hard to achieve their successes. The epidemic of cheating will continue to affect the society negatively in the near future unless a culture of honesty is cultivated.
Andy Blicq, further, utilizes examples of the ways students cheat with modern day technology. Techniques like sabotaging, plagiarizing or even bribery have assisted theses students to succeed in their academic courses. The students have successfully adapted to the win-at-all costs strategies to extreme magnitudes. The documentary displayed examples of students trying to hide information for the other students so they can stay ahead of the class in terms of grades. The disregard for other honest students has led today’s generation down the dishonest and unprincipled trail for the sake of getting marks. Another example of the ways student cheat is plagiarizing where they pass someone else’s work as their own. This method of cheating is very common even in the adult world where the original author of the work is uncredited for while they succeed off the work. The students only continue to follow in the path of these adults without having any regard of their peers. Some students even pay professionals to create assignment pieces for them that they would get the credit for. This behaviour only encourages the depreciation of the significance of honesty in the present nation.
