SUBJECT: Flexible Work Place Practices
In light of the changing workplace and business environment, the management feels it is necessary to conduct research that will enhance flexible work practices for the company. The current work trends are old and do not represent the full wish of the workers. Moreover, the advent of technology, diversification, and globalization present the need for customized practices. The CEO instructed the formation of research to collect the views of workers that will form part of the final practice. The study aims to collect the ideas of the employees on the importance of flexible practices as well as their accommodation of the changes. The research methodology for was through the use of online surveys to all employees and addressed the following issues
- Pros and Cons modified work practices
- Preferred work schedule plan
- Balance between off days and special meetings
- The adoption of technology- Telecommunication
- Employee contrition to technology use.
View of modified work practices
Most of the employees saw modified work practices as a good move to increasing employee productivity. One factor is the high number of young employee that are flexible and innovative in methods of work. Graph 1.1 shows the level of acceptance of the new policy among workers.
Preferred work practice schedule
Different employees had different ideas of the best work plan. The difference was by the number of hours of service per week and the number of days per week. A bulk agreed to continue with the current time frame while others opted for one that will allow them more free time.
Long weekends and special meetings
In as much as the workers preferred long weekends, they were not ready to give them up for ad hoc meetings. The reason for the great refusal to special meeting contribution is the high number of workers aged between 25 and 50 years who have families.
Adoption of technology.
Most of the employees supported the use of telecommunication in business. Telecommunication not only saves time but is a very creative way of connecting with others in the shortest time possible. The highest appetite for telecommunication stems from the young generation of workers who love creativity and also engages in several duties
Employee contribution to technology adoption.
Employees embraced the use of new technology but were reluctant to contribute to the project. Most of the workers declined the idea of contribution as such measures are for the management to foot and not employees. Salary deductions to foot the expense would act as a disincentive and most employees are against the idea.
Use of telecommunication
Telecommunication would not necessarily replace the regular activates of the firm. In as much as the employees will be flexible, they will still have to carry the typical day's work. The survey shows that most would use telecommunication for only two days and thus not a complete substitute for standard work. Graph 1.2 shows the use of telecommunication among workers.
