Hillary Clinton

When it comes to gun control Hillary Clinton plans to pass “common sense gun laws” in hopes to control the number of conflicts that arise from gun violence. She is pushing for background check legislation, which would include banning all domestic abusers or the mentally ill from buying or possessing guns. She wants to close the “Charleston loophole” which allows a gun sale to proceed without a completed background check. She also wants to close “the gun show loophole” in hopes to reduce the high volume of gun sales to the public. “I believe weapons of war have no place on our streets…we may have our disagreements on gun safety regulations, but we should all be able to agree on a few things.” But on the other hand, Donald Trump plans to defend the second amendment at all costs. His campaign website says he would “enforce the laws on the books” Trump wants to appoint a justice to the Supreme Court that would also uphold the Second Amendment. He believes that it is a right that should not be restricted in any manner. I personally believe that gun restriction is important. Reducing the freedom that guns have will lead to less gun violence. It will also reduce the number of crimes and deaths carried out by guns. Another topic that I felt was important, was environment/energy protection. Hillary Clinton plans to create an environmental and climate justice task force to reduce pollution and toxic hazards that disproportionately affect low-income families and minority communities.  She also plans to Generate enough renewable energy to power every home in the next decade. She wants to cut oil and gas subsidies, as well as revamp the Renewable Fuel Standard. Donald Trump has described climate change as a "hoax" He would nullify the Paris Climate Agreement and eliminate the Department of Environmental Protection. He plans on becoming completely energy independent. He also proposes to Lift regulations on oil and gas industries. "Our total untapped oil and gas reserves on federal lands equal an estimated $50 trillion dollars”. I believe that looking out for the environment will help the United States flourish both socially and economically. It will help develop new renewable energy sources that will aid the future of America. I would like to see less consumption of oil and gas. As well as restrictions on those industries to ensure that they are as limited as possible. The third topic I have been following during this election is women’s issues. When it comes to this topic, Hillary Clinton believes in equal pay for equal work. She wants to pass the Paycheck Fairness Act, a bill Clinton introduced as a senator which would promote pay transparency. Clinton wants 12 weeks of paid maternity and medical leave. Under her proposals, no family would pay more than 10 percent of income on child care. She wants to Increase federal funding to bring down the cost of child care. But when it comes to abortion, Clinton believes in a woman's right to choose and pledges to defend the Roe v. Wade decision by the Supreme Court. She would repeal the Hyde amendment, which prevents federal funds from being used to support abortion services.  Trump on the other hand has opposing views. When asked about equal pay during one town hall event, Trump said women would make the same as men if they "do as good a job." He advocates six weeks of paid maternity leave. He proposes child care expenses be tax deductible for individuals making up to $250,000 a year or couples with an income of up to $500,000. Following widespread backlash over his remark that women who undergo an abortion should suffer "some form of punishment," Trump posited instead that, if abortion were banned, the doctor or anyone performing the abortion would be held legally responsible for the crime. Still, Trump has suggested that he would nominate a Supreme Court justice who would overturn the landmark Roe v. Wade ruling, which protects a woman's right to have an abortion. this topic will be one that our next president is constantly deciding on. I personally believe that Donald trump will not be able to make the right chooses when it comes to this topic. His comments on women’s pay are something that I do not accept. The recent information about him in correspondence to women in general makes him very unfit for president. Abortion is also a topic that has been heavily debated in this election. I support Hillary’s plan in which she allows the women to make the decision on whether or not it’s the right path to take on an abortion.
