Julia Watkins creates a work of art directly influenced by the feeling of the first touch between two lovers. The portrait, “Leaning Lovers”, utilizes contour lines in a symbolical form to shape the bodies of the two lovers. In her work of art, she has employed many layers of translucent, clear and colored textures, applied with sculpting tools, which cause the focal point to move as the eye moves, causing a hypnotic effect to the viewer. The swirls in this image represents the spiritual energy that exists all around us. This art style, known as energism seeks to use art to help humanity connect to universal energy flow promoting both healing and higher consciousness. The more the viewer stares into the painting and the vertical contour lines, the form of two bodies appear in the lightness of color. It makes the viewer decipher the sex of the two lovers whether they are male or female. The emotions reflected allows the goosebumps to be felt from the first time of sexual encounter along with the numerous pent up feelings being released up and down the body and surrendering to the energy involved. The theme of love is clearly displayed not just through the entanglement of two lovers, but from the warmness of the center focal point and the surrounding of dark cool colors. “Leaning Lovers” helps any viewer reconnect to that powerful feeling of love, attracting it to anyone’s life either through an existing relationship or helping them find it through something new.
