“Philippines, A Harmonious Nation”

It is the rumbling in their abdomens

A throbbing of their hearts

It is the blood rushing to their face, too, too far.

It is their teeth clenched and mashing their fingernails pampering their palms

It is the way the breath gets cold somewhere between their mouth and their lungs

There are discussions to be had too long left pestering in the corner white, on right

The courage of Mactan’s hero, or the Katipunan’s revolution, the death of the warrior

In blood and spirit, we were born from immortal seeds of our heroes

With the ocean’s breath, with the forest’s hair, with suntanned skin, with sight contoured by rain.

Filipino is our race, built like a warrior whose body and shape ripen strength to any battle to protect the native nation.

“Pearl of the Orient”: that’s what our country is called.

But, do we still really know what it meant?

Ignorance, anger, silence, neglect, letting that hunger force us into violence

This race is slowly turning into a monster forcing us to starve ourselves and each other.

The blood shattered in every canon and sword, citizens fought, seeking freedom from which we were caught

Exposure of the corruption of every politicians and government officials, slowly transferring the wealth of our country in their initials

An area with its people compressing in every single side of a corner, having each day to suffer, in a nationwide poverty and hunger

Lack of education, garbage everywhere due to the pollution, that’s why we can never know if this, this nation is really developing on its own

There are real lives on the vault, how many pieces each of all, and in off the mountain is every war, even if it looks to be a draw.

There are real lives on the lie, even if we did not commit a crime, uphold means nothing when we are faced with the high king.

Privilege, is not a mask for only the rich of the rich to please

It is not just dimension, and the position, and the cars or the five-star education

It is also the respect, the lack of a second glance

This is what we have that others don’t.

It is the rambling in our abdomens

A throbbing of our hearts

It is the blood rushing to our faces too, too far.

It is our teeth clenched and mashing our fingernails pampering our palms, and our throats swallowing our tongues.
