Organizational Behavior Terminology and Concepts Paper
Organizational Behavior is the study of individuals and groups in organizations. It is a multidisciplinary field devoted to understanding individual and group behavior, interpersonal processes, and organizational dynamics (Schermerhorn, Hunt, & Osborn, 2005). Organizational behavior can also be applied to a person's home life. As a stay-at-home mom, if I do not understand my children's behavior I cannot teach them.
Organizational Culture is the shared beliefs and values that influence the behavior of organizational members (Schermerhorn, et al. 2005). As a stay-at-home mom, I am able to pass on my beliefs and values to my children. My parents have some beliefs and values that I choose not to teach my children.
Diversity is differences based on gender, race, and ethnicity, age, able-bodiedness, and sexual orientation (Schermerhorn, et al. 2005). In my household, there is plenty of diversity. As the mother, I am the only female in the house. My children are 20 or more years younger than I am. Since my children are young, they are able to move faster than I am, when they want to.
Communication is the process of sending and receiving symbols with attached meanings (Schermerhorn, et al. 2005). Communication can be done without words. My children know that when they are doing something wrong and I stand up that they are in trouble.
Organizational effectiveness is sustainable high performance in accomplishing mission and objectives (Schermerhorn, et al. 2005). Parents are always worried about whether or not they are good parents. I measure my parenting skills by how well my children are doing in school, and by what other people say about my children. When my son receives good grades in school, I know that I am doing my part in developing his knowledge.
