Every organization has goals and standards for their employees. By having these set standards, it keeps things running smoothly and organized. These standards are behaviors, cultures, and diversity, communication, effectiveness and efficiency, and learning. Most everyone can relate to these standards in one way or another.

Organizational Behavior

Organizational behavior, according to J. Schermerhorn, J. Hunt, and R. Osborn (2005), “is the study of human behavior in organizations.” Organizational behavior is made to understand individual and group behavior, dynamics, and interpersonal processes. This leads to learning about and a better understanding about yourself and other people in a work environment. Learning about organizational behavior also leads to having potential for success in your career in dynamic, complex, shifting, and challenging new workplaces. Organizational behavior is about everyday people working to pursue goals in their careers. It is about seeking a fulfillment in your job and lifestyle.

In my workplace as a home health aid, I have many challenges I have to face on a daily basis. My behavior in the workplace has to be very mature and professional. Even when outside the workplace, my behavior has to stay strictly confidential when discussing any workplace issues. By keeping a steady behavior I keep a relationship with my clients and my organization that is trustworthy. This only helps me to be more successful in the future in my career.

Organizational Culture

Organizational culture is shared beliefs and values that influence the behavior of organizational members. (Schermerhorn et al, 2005) Organizations with positive and strong cultures have a high performance rate, better teamwork, are encourage taking risks, and are more open to innovation.

In my workplace I deal with clients from different cultural backgrounds every day. Since those people are from different cultures, it gives me hands-on experience in dealing with different beliefs. Being apart of an organization that has strong and positive goals and beliefs, it makes it a little easier to respect and enjoy other peoples beliefs and share mine.

Organizational Diversity

Diversity in the workplace is the presence of individual differences based on gender, race, ethnicity, age, able-bodieness, and sexual orientation. (Schermerhorn et al, 2005) By having diversity in the workplace, it not only shows the respect the organization has for diversity, but it can be a good way to open peoples eyes about people different than themselves. Diversity helps to build an internal climate of inclusiveness for everyone involved.

In my workplace there is not a day that goes by that I do not deal with diversity. My main client is male, 76, and not of able body. To me, this is a opportunity to get to know how someone who is different deals with things. It makes my job more enjoyable, not more difficult. I find diversity to be a great learn experience.

Organizational Communication

For communication to be effective, the willingness, understanding, and active listening have to be present to overcome the challenges organizations may face. When organizations and its employees are better prepared for what lies ahead, their work together is less likely to suffer. By being prepared organizations can keep their workplace running smoothly and stay on track. This can be done also through proper organization. By focusing on the task at hand and staying organized, it will show up well
