Organizational Terminology and Theories

Many things influence the way a company does business. One major factor is the employees of that company. When someone says the phrase “organizational behavior,” what comes to mind? Maybe how organizations behave. The loose definition is learning how individuals or groups interact within a company. This assignment will reflect how things such as organizational behavior, organizational culture, diversity, communication, business ethics and change management can affect an organization.

If someone where to examine the company I work for, IAT Group, they would notice many things that are different from many other companies. For instance, everyone in the company loves to eat! Staff members celebrate every employee’s birthday with a food feast day once a month for the birthday’s in that month in each department. Each person’s birthday that is in that month gets a birthday card signed by all employees in that particular department. When I first came to this company I didn’t believe that people would do such a thing at a major company for the employees. This rule is not written but it a behavior that everyone not only participates in but very much looks forward too. This makes all employees feel like the company truly cares about by taking time out just to enjoy something so simple. That furthermore allows employee to have a sense of being a family with each other. This is a very positive social and organizational behavior that keeps the employees happy. Satisfied employees also work harder for the company as well.

Organizational culture is very similar to organizational behavior too. IAT Group’s organizational culture has the belief to help a member of staff when help is needed. When someone in a worker’s family dies, all employees come together to do anything they can to help that employee cope. This is also shown by upper management giving employees paid time off for bereavement up to four days. Everyone who works for the company loves the organization. Everyone has his or her eyes and minds set on the vision of the company and work hard everyday to make sure that the vision is obtained in any way. Our company values hard-working staff members that help the company to reach the stated goal from the company-wide meetings. If IAT Group did not have a strong organizational culture, it would not be a $1.666 billion dollar company today.

In today’s world more women than ever are coming into the workforce. When it comes to diversity, many people from all walks of life are employed at IAT Group. No one is discriminated against because of race, religion, age, or any other factors that makes humans different. Every incoming employee has to not only read a manual on discrimination and sexual harassment but also watch a 30 minute movie and take a quiz to make sure that they understand the seriousness of being prejudice. Current employees have to take a small course once a year to make sure they understand what inequality is and how to avoid it. Immense things happen when you have a very diverse workforce because many different people bring many different things to the table. Everyone has different experiences that can make them see some things differently from others.

Communication is a key necessity when doing anything but especially making a company not only operate well but also to be profitable. Effective and efficient communication can make day to day task like talking to company insurers
