My Personal Goals

For many years I have been a part of the working class world. Had my first job when I was thirteen years old, not including babysitting. I have always dreamed of becoming an interpreter when life got in the way! I have many changes in my life with financial problems, family issues, and my education. Until now I set short term goals, never long ones, for long seemed out of reach. As a student of the University of Phoenix I want to reach for accomplishments that supercede Tri-C.

My parents have always stressed the importance of going to school and doing my best. I went to Catholic schools until college. We had a strong church upbringing and yet I stray at times from that now. I went to Akron University right out of high school but dropped out after two semesters. This was mostly because of my fear in not being able to succeed. So I went back to work and became a bill collector. Financially I could not go to school even when I thought I was finally ready to take the plunge. I got married, had a baby, got divorced found a new love, had three more children and still could not go back to school. Finally, I was laid off from my $13.00 an hour job from hell and decided there is no time like the present. I jumped in head first took out student loans and went back to school.

I started at Cuyahoga Community College in the summer of 2003. No one explained to me that the summer classes were shorter and harder. Here I find myself again feeling overwhelmed and doubting my ability to finish. Needless to say I stuck it out. Through my children's problems, my parents illnesses and my sister learning she had cancer three months ago. I clean houses and live off of my loan money. Everything seems to be a struggle for me. I have cried many tears in the last three years and never thought that I would make it through but I have persevered and graduated May 18th, 2006.

Here I am, a University of Phoenix student, going through the same questions of whether or not I can handle this work load. I am terrified and nervous. I want to be the best student that I can be. I am aiming for honors. I want to know that when I graduate, I can have my own interpreting agency and run it smoothly. I want to be a success for myself and my children. My goal is to have better time management and great communication skills and be confident that I have achieved what I am capable of. I will be soul searching along the way and realizing that long terms goals are ok for me too. I want to take pride in my work and set the best example for my children.

"It is never too late to learn" my parents have told me along the way. My mother graduated Suma Cum Laude
