Dear Williams Family:

Did you know, each year more than 4,000 American’s die and approximately 25,000 are injured in fires--many of which could have been prevented? Nearly 1,000 lives are lost to fires that originated in the bedroom, and about 100 firefighters are killed in the line of duty each year. Each year in the United States fires kill more American’s than all natural disasters combined.

Many people in our community are under the impression that our Fire Company is funded by the state, but in reality the state only funds 10% of our services to the community, the other 90% comes from the gracious donations of people like you.

The 125 men and women of the Pacific City Volunteer Fire Company responded to over 1500 alarms, participated in hundreds of hours of training and donated thousands of hours of service during 2006. We here at PCVFC are dedicated to keeping our community safe and out of harm’s way.

A house fire is reported in the United States every 90 seconds. This is an average of 1.9 million fires reported each year and someone dies in a house fire every two and one-half hours. A fire’s heat alone can kill. Room temperatures in a fire can be 100 degrees at floor level and rise to 600 degrees at eye level. Inhaling this super hot air will scorch your lungs. This heat can melt clothes to your skin. In five minutes a room can get so hot that everything in it ignites at once.

These facts and examples may scare you, but remember, they are true. So it’s crucial that our community has a fully functional fire company.

The family here at the Pacific City Volunteer Fire Company not only fight fires and save lives but also participate and run many events in our community. For example, each year the department puts together a 5k fun run in which the proceeds go to families who have lost their homes due to fires. This is the time of the year when we ask for a helping hand from you in the form of a donation. Any amount will help us to keep our community safe
